Angling Courses In The Wye Valley

Wonder Of The Wye Breaks – 2010

Peter Smith and I will be running two very special angling courses on the River Wye during 2010. Each will last 5 days (4 nights) and be limited to just 8 anglers.

Staying at the historic Caer Beris Manor Hotel at Builth Wells, we will explore the river together targeting both chub and barbel on four quite different stretches. You will learn how the character of this fascinating river changes as we work down the valley.

Each course begins on a Sunday and the following schedule gives you a little idea of what we aim to provide.

Sunday:

Guests arrive during the day.

Option to fish unguided on the Wye or the Irfon. We can reserve prime beats for you in advance should you fancy adding an additional day to your itinery.

We shall share a gourmet evening meal in a private oak panelled dining room where we will all get to know each other.

After dinner I will give a short talk on Chub Tactics and show part one of a special film presentation.

Monday:

After a hearty full-Welsh breakfast we’ll go chubbing on the Wye.

A packed lunch is provided.

This evening we’ll dine in style once more in our private dining room.

After dinner the talk will be Barbel Tactics followed by the second part of my film presentation.

Tuesday:

Today we head downstream to a new stretch where we’ll get an opportunity to target both chub and barbel but not until we’ve enjoyed another hearty breakfast.

Once again a packed lunch will be provided.

Today’s evening meal will be a steak barbecue, cooked on the riverbank. This means you will be able to stay out late and enjoy the magic twilight hour on the riverbank before returning to the hotel.

Wednesday:

You’ve probably guessed but another massive breakfast awaits you, after which we drive down the valley again to a third specially chosen stretch of river where you will fish for both chub and barbel. We’ll be joined by a local expert who will share some of his knowledge with you.

You’ll probably be too stuffed to eat the packed lunch today! But it will be provided… ;-)

Tonight we dine in private and we’ll be joined by our guest guide. Peter Smith (the hotel owner) will probably deliver his mahseer slide show. Peter has vast experience when it comes to catching the largest barbus species of them all.

Thursday:

Sadly today is the day you leave but not before you’ve had one last crack at the river’s barbel. We’ll rise early – how early depends on you and your stamina.

We have a little drive ahead of us but for most folk it is on their way home anyway. We’re visiting a short syndicate stretch of the Wye that is a very prolific barbel fishery.

One final packed lunch will probably be the last food you will want to see for a while, I imagine!

You will be free to fish all day, or simply leave when it suits you best. Some guests will have further to travel than others but you can stay on right through till dark should you wish.

Dates And Prices

The total cost of these angling courses is just £459 based on two anglers sharing a room. If you want a single room then a supplement applies.

Just rebooked the fishing break on the Wye as I enjoyed last year so much!

The venues, Bob’s coaching and the great hospitality and food at the Caer Beris was fantastic.

Looking forward to catching up with you again, John, too.

The extra days will enable us to do so much more than last year. New stretches to explore, too (well, to you they’ll be new!).

The two bankside cook-out’s should be fun as well. Peter’s a dab hand on a barbie.
