I would imagine the many thousands of anglers who read and enjoy your regular blogs are appalled at the back biting comments you get from a very tiny group of people. The enthusiasm you have is to be admired and respected. Angling needs a voice and you, certainly for me, have that voice.
Your journalistic expertise stands you in good stead mate. No need for me to say “take no notice” of these parasites. They probably cannot fish anyway and just have jealous trends.
On another topic I note your have listed the increase in rod licence sales. Whilst that is encouraging to say the least I do wonder if this increase comes from the carp anglers who now buy rod sets in threes and therefor need 2 licences. I just find it hard to beleive that we have more anglers.
Its difficult to work out from a shop trade point of view because here in the Midlands many shops, including mine, are experiencing lower footfall. OK accept the fact that online selling, eBay, etc. are taking their toll but in my travels around I just dont see as many people fishing.
River fishing is certainly in decline as you have experienced on the Trent. I remember days when the river was lined for miles with anglers every 20 to 30 yards. I was on the Warwick Avon just before Christmas and had the river to myself on a day that was quite reasonable. But even some of the Commercial fisheries are not getting the numbers they were. All a bit worrying.
