2012 – Mid December Blog

Welcome dear reader. Let me begin this epic blog with a question; are you an optimist? Do you genuinely believe you’re going to catch whatever the weather, time of year, species you target and so on? Or are you, like me, a fatalist, fully believing that if things can go wrong, they probably will. Even [...]

Only a brief blog this time, for which I trust you’ll be eternally greatful. There simply doesn’t appear to be enough time at the moment to fit everything in and fishing has to take priority when time is tight. I promised you more of Mole’s paintings so what better way to kick off. Here’s the [...]

Greetings everyone. Make yourself comfortable because this is one monster of a blog. My intention was to publish it next week but it just seems to grow by the hour, almost organically. So much has happened in the past week it’d be pointless not to share it with you sooner. I do hope you’re catching a [...]

I dropped in on the River Don today at Sprotborough, just with a lure rod plus a bunch of rubber lures and spinner baits. The river above the weir is controlled by Rotherham UAF and it is stuffed with fish. The drawback is it’s deep, probably averaging 15 feet or more, but the bottom is littered [...]

Everywhere you look there are signs that autumn is approaching rapidly. Officially we’ve got another four weeks before the clocks go back but I’ve a sneaky feeling we’ll be well into winter’s transition by then if the misty mornings and fruit laden trees are anything to go by. Already there’s a tinge of brown to be [...]

New Season News Well the long wait is finally over. As June 16th approached I was buzzing to get out on the rivers and start fishing again. Quite what made me so excited this year I haven’t a clue but I was straining at the leash as the big day approached. My main desire was to dig [...]

And They’re Off! Well, the World Cup is underway and a new fishing season is upon us so lest you’ve forgotten what it’s all about, here are three clips portraying anglers doing what most of you have been eager to do for at least three months, probably nearer six or eight months in a lot of [...]

You know, I had a brilliant time at the Barbel Society’s ‘Running Water 2010′ show on Sunday despite the attendance appearing to be well down on recent years. With Dave Chilton (Kryston) and Gary Knowles on the stand next door the insults were always going to be be flying thick and fast. But I guess what [...]

Early April Blog Greetings everyone! I struggled to get out on the bank for most of this week needing to catch up on a backlog of writing. Anyway, I’m back on top on that score at least. Friday saw me heading down to Lakeside Fisheries, near Ranskill. The owners have been good friends for at least 15 years [...]

Last Gasp Scribblings… Sorry folks, not a lot of fishing in this offering. Quite frankly I’ve been too busy and even if I wasn’t, it would be difficult to find the inspiration while the stillwaters are so cold and the rivers high and coloured. But it won’t last and I’ll be out there strutting my [...]
