My article about the ten biggest threats to angling drew quite a response both here on this web site and on others, too, although you would be forgiven for thinking the entire article was about otters and the other nine categories were erroneous. Perhaps it’s because otters are currently flavour of the month, the threat [...]

In my last blog I highlighted a letter in the Anglers Mail from Dave Tipping. Dave may be an accomplished angler but he refuses to recognise the threat posed by otters in particular, but also cormorants. It sparked quite a debate in the comments posted by readers. To be fair the blog piece was a [...]

As you know, I met up with John Wilson the other day and he was telling me about a project he’s involved with in the Predation Action Group. As we finally emerge from the iron grip of the recent arctic blast perhaps it’s time to take stock of how our fish have been faring. Can you believe Christmas is almost here? I can’t. Where did the summer go? It’s another year over, a new one just begun and all that. No doubt lots of anglers will be dreaming of getting new rods, reels, poles and accessories amongst their prezzies but the chances are it’ll be slippers and socks again! [...]

The old fishing’s started to get a mite tricky in recent weeks. From the heydays and high days of summer when barbel proved as easy to catch as certain mugs on the Internet forums I’m reduced to scratching around for bites.
